End of Daylight Saving Time To Do List
Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend. The clock “falls back” one hour on Sunday November 1st at 2:00AM (making it 1:00AM). This allows for more light in the morning, but unfortunately makes it darker much sooner in the evenings.
Daylight saving time can be a great way to remind us to do some important tasks around the house,
Test your smoke detectors & Replace Batteries
Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are incredibly important. Keep them up and ready for any emergency.
Use daylight saving time as a calendar reminder to test the devices and replace the batteries in these life-saving devices.
Deep Cleaning
Use the bi-annual daylight saving time change as a schedule for a deep cleaning. Go through your clothes and give away items you haven’t worn in a year by donating to Goodwill or other local organizations.
Heating System Check & Filter Replace
Maintenance is absolutely key for responsible home ownership. Proper maintenance can help lengthen the life of your system and avoid expensive repairs.
Use the daylight saving time change to have your HVAC checked by a professional and remember to change the furnace filter regularly
Flip your mattress
To extend the life of your mattress, you should actually flip and rotate it multiple times a year to make sure the weight is being evenly distributed throughout the mattress. While you’re at it, give your mattress a little love by vacuuming or steaming it to reduce your risk of bed bugs.
You sleep on it every night, so don’t neglect your mattress!
Turn off exterior water valves
In colder climates, water left in exterior pipes can freeze and may cause pipes to burst. Before the weather turns too cold, drain and disconnect garden hoses. Then, you should turn off your shutoff valve (these valves are usually inside the house). Next, open and close the outside tap to release any water that is still inside the pipe.
Don’t forget to change clocks!
This seems like an obvious one. Unless all your clocks automatically change, you’ll probably have to manually adjust some of the clocks in your home.
Don’t forget to turn your clocks back by an hour before you go to sleep on Saturday night, as daylight saving time ends on Sunday Nov. 1 at 2:00 a.m. when the clocks roll back to 1:00 am
